But the Xenomorph threat was greater than anticipated, and also the marines were being attacked by the Yautja as part of their hunt. Following their orders, the marines engaged the Xenomorphs in combat. Their orders were to find the missing colonists and to eradicate any potential threat.ĭuring their investigation, the marines indeed found the missing colonists and that they were used as hosts for the Xenomorphs.
When the workers started disappearing, the Colonial Marines were called to investigate. Long had the Company sought to obtain specimens only for them to escape their grasp. The miners that had discovered the dormant eggs were working for Weyland-Yutani. However, the Yautja weren't the only ones with plans for the Xenomorphs. But by exposing themselves, the miners had unintentionally triggered another hunt, which served both as a means to control the Xenomorph population and for the Council of Ancients to determine which warriors were worthy to join their ranks.
But by approaching the eggs, the miners activated the Facehuggers within. They would have remained dormant for hundreds of years until the Yautja needed them for another hunt. This is why when the human miners discovered the cache of eggs in a cavern deep below the surface, there were no warriors nor a queen. Any remaining adult specimen has to be neutralized and the eggs stored in a place where they can't be accessed by potential hosts. Once a hunt is over, the Xenomorphs mustn't be allowed to spread. That's why for any world used for the hunt by the Predators, control is crucial.
If left to their own devices, the Xenomorphs would have taken over the planet thousands of years ago. The planet is already home to many forms of alien life that would make for suitable hosts for the Xenomorphs.
